Shoreline Trail (Lory State Park III) – In A Colorado Minute (Week 235)

Shoreline Trail in Lory State Park, near Fort Collins, Colorado, is a 1-mile trail leading to Horsetooth Reservoir, which flanks the park on its eastern side.

While this is a very short trail, what you get to see is very diverse: the rolling meadow of Horsetooth Mountain Park, red cliffs, the hogbacks near the water, wildflowers (so beautiful even in autumn), barren trees damaged from fire next to lush green conifer trees and (at this time of year) trees letting go of their last yellow leaves… and then finally the reservoir itself with the vista of the eastern range and the Great Plains beyond. And on your way back you get a great view of Arthur’s Rock, which I covered in the video Arthur’s Rock (Lory State Park II) – In A Colorado Minute (Week 206).

We had discovered this trail the day before and knowing that wind was in the forecast and all the autumn foliage would be gone soon, Whiskey and I ventured out there the next day… during a 25-mile an hour storm. Hope the images of Whiskey’s ears flopping in the wind make up for the sometimes unsteady image caused by the wind rattling my tripod.

As you might notice in the shots with the bright blue sky, there is some dust. It’s actually inside the lens so I can’t clean it. If you want to help me get a new dust-free lens, please make a donation via the tip jar below your favorite of my videos on Vimeo or via the PayPal link on the right side of this website.
